Position Summary
CTE is seeking a full-time Engineering Associate to provide technical analysis to transportation electrification projects. This position will use analytic tools such as Excel, Python scripts, simulations, databases, and data visualization tools on a daily basis. This role also offers the opportunity to further develop leadership skills over time with both client interactions and improving CTE's technical processes and tools. Job duties may also include administrative work such as technical report writing, presentations to audiences with a variety of backgrounds, facilitating meetings with clients, and supporting grant applications.
In support of our transportation electrification projects, CTE’s Engineering Associates apply a wide range of STEM principles, including:
- Chemistry (battery and fuel cell technology)
- Physics and circuits (vehicle operating principles and charging infrastructure)
- Engineering mechanics and controls (vehicle simulation)
- Fluid mechanics (hydrogen fueling)
- Thermodynamics (HVAC / heating & cooling)
- Environmental science (calculating emissions benefits)
- Data processing (Python and Excel)
- Data analysis (helping clients understand how to effectively use electric vehicles of today and tomorrow)
Responsibilities
- Use, develop, and maintain Excel worksheets
- Use, develop, and maintain Python scripts
- Use, develop, and maintain data visualization tools
- Work with clients to assess needs and collect data
- Write technical reports and technical proposals
- Present technical findings to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical
Required Qualifications
- Analytical bent
- Proficient with Excel
- Some experience scripting, e.g. Python, Matlab, R, VBA
- Comfortable working with changing and developing technology
- Demonstrated history of collaboration and teamwork
- Proficient in English writing
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Engineering or computer science degree program (however other degrees are encouraged to apply)
- Some knowledge of physics including basic mechanical and electrical principles (however we will fill in any gaps in your knowledge)
- Experience with transportation electrification
- Experience working in public transit, especially in transit planning
- Project management experience
- Grant and/or proposal writing experience
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work independently to overcome technical obstacles, suggest better approaches, and communicate effectively – verbally, visually, and in writing. As part of working in the consulting industry, CTE requires the ability to juggle multiple projects. Travel is required on average 2-3 days per month.
